PawPriceGuide started from a question every pet owner in the United States eventually asks: “How much is this actually going to cost me?”
I’m Lucas Cardemil, the founder of PawPriceGuide. Whether you’re staring down an unexpected emergency vet bill, trying to decide if pet insurance is worth it, or budgeting for a new puppy or kitten, real numbers are hard to find. Vet websites rarely list prices. Insurance comparison sites often push a single sponsored product. I built PawPriceGuide to fill that gap with clear, practical cost guides and insurance comparisons that put your dog or cat’s wellbeing first.
What I Cover
- Pet Insurance Explained — plain-language breakdowns of deductibles, reimbursement rates, waiting periods, and exclusions.
- Choosing a Policy — what to compare in any pet insurance policy, and how to read reviews and complaints.
- Vet Price Trends — what published inflation data shows about veterinary costs.
- Affording Vet Care — payment plans, financing options, nonprofit assistance, and low-cost clinics for when money is tight.
- Pet Product Safety — recent FDA pet food and veterinary product recalls, how to report a problem, and what public FDA adverse event data does and does not show. Every entry links to the official FDA notice.
My Approach
I’m an independent publisher, not a veterinary practice, an insurance company, or a financial advisor. I research and write these guides using publicly posted insurance policy terms and independent references such as NAPHIA, the AVMA and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. I use AI writing tools to help draft and organize text, and I check the figures against the cited sources before publishing. Where I cite a number, it comes from a named public source, and I do not publish price tables I cannot trace to one. It’s meant to help you ask better questions and set realistic expectations — not to replace a conversation with your own veterinarian or a licensed insurance agent. See my Editorial Policy for details on how I research and update these guides.
How It’s Funded
PawPriceGuide is supported by advertising and, on some pages, affiliate partnerships with pet insurance providers and financial services. This never affects what I write or how I rank information — see my Affiliate Disclosure for the full picture.
